A smile and white hair on open sea:
A little boat and an oldie on the oceans of the globe...
| |
|
|
After my last adventures in the Pacific and the Patagonian Channels aboard 'Ata'Ata (www.sy-ataata.com), stuck for a few months by the Covid epidemic in Puerto Williams at the end of the world and the years passing for us oldies, I thought it "reasonable" to set foot on land. And it was not a sacrifice to spend a few years in Ushuaia in particular and in this magical region that is Tierra del Fuego, which Argentina, Chile and their wonderful inhabitants are sharing there at the very end of the South American continent.

|
But the wind which blows almost constantly in Patagonia from the Pacific or the Atlantic also brings with it so many passing sailboats as well as memories and images, that the call of the open sea remained truly strong and, well... I couldn't resist it. And I finally discovered in Denmark, just symmetrically to Tierra del Fuego in latitude, "Lista", my new little cruising boat: a lovely sailboat cut exactly to my size, since it was designed for the open sea, and with which, together, we have a total of just over 125 years. :-)

Our Earth is made up of five great oceans, extraordinary sources of all life which cover almost three-quarters of it on each side of the equator, all the way beyond the two polar circles. So I want to go back to sea to sail around it once again, to see what winds are blowing out there and to meet again all these wonderful friends who are waiting for me there, from dolphins to whales, from terns to albatrosses and so many others...

Logbook
Current position: N 56° 24' - E 010° 55' Grenaa, Danemark
This logbook opens in September 2025 here in Northern Europe, where Lista is waiting to cast off and embark on new sea adventures.
For now, the boat is still in Grenaa, at the eastern tip of Central Jutland and Djursland, in that beautiful, flat, island-filled country of Denmark. Sweden is just across the way, about sixty miles across the Gulf of Kategatt, while about a hundred miles to the north, the Gulf of Skagerak separates us from Norway.
Whether on a radiant summer day or a harsh winter gale, this wonderful low coast, flush with the East Sea, as the Danes call the Baltic, breathes that special atmosphere of the northern European shores, for which I have remained nostalgic since my early years of sailing.
Along with the boat, I discovered here in Grenaa, a pretty little town, which is also a fishing and trading port and which is connected daily by a ferry to Sweden.
The marina is as pleasant, quiet and perfectly organized as the Danes are, and the discreet and boundless kindness of my sailing neighbors makes me feel once again... like at home!

October 4th 2025
At the beginning of October, the first serious autumn depression arrives and with it... this year's great summer sailing season comes to its end...
But with a little more patience, a few more fitting-out jobs, and the little white sailboat will be ready to point its bow towards new and, in principle, distant horizons...
