The challenge of the 5 oceans
Sailing around the world from West to East and over both Polar Circles
| |

|
With Lista I would like to leave in this life a positive and constructive sign, to concretize and transmit values in which I believe: among them that life is a wonderful adventure that we have the privilege of living and for which it is worth giving the best of oneself, for example taking some somewhat unusual commitment, even if it involves certain risks, which can be assumed by calculating them as best as possible. And to remind that nothing is impossible in this world: with the right determination, even starting from nothing, no goal is too high not to try to achieve it, if it is worth it, and it is up to each of us to estimate its importance for ourselves.
It is with this in mind that aboard Lista I would like to sail again solo over all five oceans, that immensity with so many endless shades that our blue planet is so unique in offering us within our reach in the universe. And the idea is to sail as far as possible over all the meridians from west to east as well as from north to south from one polar circle to the other one, over the entire by sailboat navigable space and therefore over all the five oceans. A bit like a big mountain to climb in an adventure which, if everything goes well and complete, should represent for the small sailboat something like a year of sailing.

A challenge I will embark on with all the more enthusiasm because in the history of navigation it has never been undertaken until now on this long solo route. Jules Verne has obviously fascinated me since my youth, like everyone else: he traveled around the world in 80 days and so I would like to follow him by making my own round the world trip reaching... my 80 years. A sailing through the "roaring forties", indeed, but without forgetting to stay in the "smiling eighties"!
On board Lista we are already in the middle of planning and preparation work and the ideal timeline could be as follows:
|
|
|
July: Start from Europe (46° N - 1° W)
1.500 nm
Beginning of August: Passing the Arctic Polar Circle (66° N - 10° W)
1.000 nm
Mid-August: Rounding Spitzberg and Svalbard archipelago (80° N - 18° E)
8.000 nm
Beginning of December: Passing Cape of Good Hope south of Africa (34° S - 18° E)
4.500 nm
Beginning of February: Passing the Antarctic Polar Circle south of Oceania (66° S - 168° E)
3.000 nm
Mid-March: Passing Cape Horn south of Americas (55° S - 67° W)
7.500 nm
June: Back to Europe (46° N - 1° W).
Total 25.500 nm on the great circle.
